School Aims

At Woodham Burn we aim to:

  • Provide a happy, loving, secure, stimulating, orderly environment in which children can flourish.

  • Give all pupils, access to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum to meet National Curriculum Requirements,regardless of race, creed, gender or disability, .

  • Help children to develop lively, enquiring, imaginative and creative minds enabling them to question and discuss rationally.

  • Foster and promote in children self-organisational skills and application to task.

  • Encourage children to foster a positive appreciation of their abilities through interaction with peers and adults.

  • Provide a carefully considered variety of learning experiences including “off-site” visits.

  • Help children to develop an awareness of varying employment in a world of rapid social, moral, economic and technical change.

  • Continue to raise academic achievement enabling each child to reach their full potential in all areas of the curriculum.

  • Provide a framework for assessment of pupils meaningful to teachers, parents, LA and Government.

  • Develop in children a sense of self-respect leading towards being an independent, self-motivated, self-disciplined adult within a co-operative society realising the importance of personal relationships. Central to this will be teaching the importance of family life.

  • Instill respect for religious and moral values to enable children to understand the multi-cultural nature of society.

  • Help children recognise the role of the school within the wider community of Newton Aycliffe and beyond that to understand their role within the world in which we live and the interdependence of individual groups and nations.

  • Help children to appreciate human achievements and aspirations.

  • Offer a range of physical activities to increase the children’s awareness of the importance of healthy bodies. Teach healthy eating and avoidance of substances detrimental to health.

  • Provide opportunities to develop creative and imaginative skills through a wide variety of media.

  • Provide opportunities for the children to participate in performing arts, thereby encouraging self confidence and greater self esteem.
