Welcome back and Happy New Year! We were hugely impressed by Year 2’s attitude and willingness to learn in the Autumn Term. We have some exciting topics planned for the term ahead and can’t wait to get started!
Within Year 2, we have Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Solly, who work together in a job share role supported by Mrs. Dowson (TA)
- Mrs Anderson (Mon pm, Thu pm, Fri am/pm)
- Mrs Solly (Mon am, Tue am/pm, Wed am/pm, Thu am)
In English this term, we will be reading a variety of fiction books, such as ‘The Rabbit Problem’ by Emily Gravett and traditional tales such as ’Little Red Riding Hood’. Following our reading, we will use our imagination to write our own exciting stories, developing skills such as proof-reading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Our non-fiction reading and writing will link to the topic work we are covering in History and Science this term and we will learn how to write reports.
We will read and write humorous poems and riddles, as well as learn some poems to perform from memory.
In Maths we will be looking closely at 3D shapes, identifying their 2D faces, and exploring their nets.
We will be learning how to solve a range of mathematical problems, including the addition/subtraction of money and giving change.
We will also be using our knowledge of times tables and using corresponding division facts (any revision of x2, x3, x5 and x10 multiplication tables at home would be most helpful).
In calculation, we will be exploring different strategies to add and subtract two 2-digit numbers, including the written method of column addition.
We will also be writing simple fractions and recognising equivalence.
