Our English Curriculum Vision

At Woodham Burn Primary School, we want every child to leave us feeling confident in using language—both spoken and written—to express themselves clearly and for different purposes. We aim to give them the reading and writing skills they need to follow their dreams and create lasting, happy memories of their time learning English here.

What We Aim to Achieve

Our goal is to help children develop strong skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We also want them to enjoy books and stories, and to feel excited about learning through language. Through our English curriculum, we aim for all children to:

• Read fluently and understand what they read

• Enjoy reading regularly—for fun and to learn new things

• Build a wide vocabulary and understand how language works

• Appreciate the richness of stories, poems, and texts from different times and places

• Write clearly and confidently for different audiences and purposes

• Use talk to explore ideas and explain their thinking

• Speak and listen well—whether in a conversation, a presentation, or a debate
